The building appears in various written sources as the Zarbhane Madrasa, Seljuk Madrasa, Imaret Madrasa, Yivli Minaret Madrasa, and Ulu Mosque Madrasa. It is claimed that the building was built as a Seljuk Palace before it became a madrasa. This north-south oriented rectangular building has an open courtyard with porticos on the sides and four iwans.

In the center of the south façade is a front door with a protruding pointed arch that has a recess with muqarnas. The door is delimited on either side by a border with geometric motifs on the outside, while the transition to the inner border with guilloche motifs is made with an undecorated gradation. There are two cippi at the furthest inside. The door niche is filled with nine rows of muqarnas, and there is an eroded and illegible inscription between the second and third rows from the bottom. There are small mihrabs bordered by reciprocal cippi on the lateral faces of the door niche.

A door with a depressed arch allows access to the entrance iwan, which leads to the rectangular courtyard. The remains suggest that the long courtyard once had colonnaded porticos on the east and west sides. There is a vaulted main iwan in the north of the courtyard and lateral iwans in the center of either side. The madrasa includes many spaces and was covered with a lead and glass roof during the most recent restoration project.
