Prof. Dr. Oğuz Tekin

The presentation begins with the studies of ARCHAEOLOGY and ANCIENT HISTORY carried out in the Anatolian geography, where foreign travelers and researchers were at the forefront in the 19th century, and explains how archaeology, anthropology and history researches fit into a systematic framework with state policies such as the Turkish History Thesis and the Sun Language Theory, which came to the fore in the early 1930s. In the following years, the new popular culture triggered by historical novels and comics fueled by these policies; translation activities of classics and oppositions to them; the contribution of universities, academics, archaeologists or intellectuals to the field; it outlines the people’s view of Byzantium and, when viewed holistically, the threshold stones of Türkiye’s archaeology and ancient history journey as a Mediterranean country. The presentation is aimed mostly at archaeology and history enthusiasts and students studying in these fields and will last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
