This speech will examine the rebellions that shook the Ottoman world in the seemingly endless 17th century with a focus on their political objectives. It will present the discourses and ideas of leaders and participants in both the Celali rebellions and other urban revolts in the context of the dizzying socioeconomic and cultural transformations that took place during this period.
