The aim of this congress, limited to the Mediterranean region, is to bring together distinguished scholars working on the history of money and numismatics related to the Mediterranean world. The goal is to share original research findings, draw attention to the cultural and economic diversity that has shaped the Mediterranean from the Lydians to Islamic states, as well as highlight the monetary and economic history of Anatolia. The congress seeks to provide a scientific contribution to this field.
In this context, the topics of the papers to be presented at the congress will cover the emergence of the concept of money, starting from the earliest coins to the end of the Ottoman Empire. It will also explore the cultures that have left their mark on the Mediterranean’s history of money and economy, as well as coins produced or circulated in this geography. Additionally, the congress will address commercial weights, which are crucial tools in the functioning and valuation of market economies in this region, up to the present day.
