Program Content

The program will cover the basics of numismatics as well as offer an introduction to the rich contribution of numismatics to the economic and monetary history of the Ancient and Byzantine worlds. Combining lectures and thematic explorations, the program will include guided visits to the numismatic cabinet and coin exhibition of the Antalya Museum. Students will have the opportunity to visit major archaeological sites in the region of Antalya such as Perge, Aspendos, Side, Termessos and Myra/Andriake. They will also learn how numismatists and archaeologists process excavated coins.

Enrollment Requirements

The program is open to all undergraduate and graduate students from Koç University, other universities in Turkey and abroad as well as to some non-student applicants. Priority will be given to undergraduate and graduate students.  A number of full and half scholarships will be provided for qualified students.

Students are expected to attend and participate in all classes as well as visits to the museums and excavation sites. Reading, summarizing and discussing the articles from the reading list is another required component of the course.
