As the center of ancient Attaleia, Kaleiçi has been inhabited continuous for centuries, leaving most ancient remains under the modern settlement. The ancient structures that have survived to the present date from the Roman Imperial Period to the Ottoman Period.

Our “Antalya Guide” project aims to introduce you to the landmark buildings of Kaleiçi. The first step of the project was to prepare a list of all the buildings there, the majority of which were photographed in 2019 and, to a lesser extent, in 2022 and 2023. Information about the buildings was compiled from the publications in the collection of the AKMED Library and presented in a concise format. Detailed information on the buildings can be obtained from the references in the bibliography of this guide and by visiting the AKMED Library in Kaleiçi. Our website also has a bibliography dedicated to Kaleiçi.

Needless to say, there are many other monuments and natural features in Kaleiçi than those included in this guide. Some structures mentioned in written sources, especially fountains and mosques, no longer exist. Other buildings have been included in this guide, even though it has proven impossible to photograph them.

We hope that travelers and researchers alike will find this publication useful.
