ARCHAEOLOGY SUMMER SCHOOL: EPHESUS



In collaboration with the Austrian Archaeological Institute Ephesus Excavations Directorate and Koç University, the Ephesus Summer School will be held in August 2024.

We are seeking the participation of 10 undergraduate students from the archaeology and art history departments at universities in Turkey for the AKMED Archaeology Summer School. Students will receive theoretical knowledge in archaeology and excavation science as part of their education.

Candidates who wish to gain excavation experience and learn about the ancient city of Ephesus and regional archaeology should complete the form provided in the link below by Wednesday, November 15th. Summer School classes will be conducted in Ephesus by the members involved in the Ephesus excavations. The Summer School is free of charge.

Registration Requirements and Important Points

The program is open to undergraduate students in their 1st to 3rd year (or 1st to 6th semester) studying in archaeology and art history departments within Turkey. Since the program will take place in August 2024, students who have reached the graduation stage or are in their final year during the 2023-2024 Academic Year (in their 7th or 8th semester) cannot apply. The program has a quota of 10 participants. Applicants for the program are expected to be enrolled in their university’s archaeology and art history departments, be under the age of 25, preferably have a moderate level of proficiency in a foreign language, and obtain a reference letter from a faculty member in their department. Graduates, postgraduate, and doctoral students, as well as those who have previously participated in the AKMED Archaeology Summer School program, are not eligible to apply.

Candidates who are granted the right to participate in the program will be informed via email in January 2024.

Program Fee

The program is free of charge. Accommodation and meals at the Ephesus Excavation House (Atatürk Mah. 1064 Sok. no: 13 Selçuk – İzmir) will be provided by the Ephesus Excavations Directorate throughout the program. Participants are responsible for their own transportation expenses between cities.
