Numismatics, the discipline of studying coins, is a rich source for history and archaeology. If you are a student or a young academic interested in numismatics, AKMED offers you an exciting and instructive journey into the heart of ancient civilizations and their coins. Now it is time to read history from coins!


Intensive two-week Summer School offering a broad chronological survey of monetary history and numismatics from the archaic to Byzantine periods, taught by Professor Dr. Oğuz Tekin (Koç University AKMED, Antalya) and  Dr. Peter van Alfen (American Numismatic Society, New York).

As a collaboration between Koç University and the Suna and İnan Kıraç Research Center for Mediterranean Civilizations (AKMED), the course will take place at AKMED, in Antalya, 3 – 14 July, 2017. Combining lectures with visits to museums and archaeological sites in the area, the course also provides rare access to some of the most important numismatic collections in Turkey.
